What is Metal Casting?

Casting is a 6,000-year-old manufacturing process where a liquid material is usually poured into a mold, which contains a hollow cavity of the desired shape, and then allowed to solidify. In our workshop, we use specialized low-melting-point alloys that allow children to experience this industrial process safely.

Step-by-Step Innovation

• The Mold Design: Students start by carving their designs into specialized sand or clay molds.
• Thermal Dynamics: We explain the transition from solid to liquid, discussing melting points and heat transfer.
• The Pour: Under 1-on-1 supervision, students witness the transformation as the glowing metal fills their design.
• Finishing: Once cooled, the 'raw' casting is polished and refined, teaching the value of post-production.
