MODULE 1

Woodworking

Ages 5-8

In this module, young makers gain a foundational understanding of using child-friendly woodworking machines and tools in a safe, stimulating, and creative environment.

Each level of this module consists of 10 lessons, with specific learning objectives for each session. These objectives are taught through an experiential, hands-on approach, with a selection of exciting projects for children to choose from.

This level instils a 'can-do' spirit in builders while enhancing their fine motor skills. Through hands-on projects, they gain experience cutting straight lines, simple arcs, and curves, resulting in both functional and creative pieces.

Learning Outcome:

Ability to use a jigsaw machine with 70% independence and 50% accuracy

Students build on their foundation skills, learning more advanced cutting techniques and beginning to work with measurements and simple joinery.

Learning Outcome:

Ability to use a jigsaw machine with 80% independence and 70% accuracy

At this level, students master the jigsaw and begin to work with more complex designs and patterns, incorporating curves and intricate shapes.

Learning Outcome:

Ability to use a jigsaw machine with 90% independence and 85% accuracy

Students learn the importance of finishing techniques, focusing on sanding and surface preparation for their projects.

Learning Outcome:

Ability to use sanding tools with 90% independence and achieve smooth finishes

In this advanced level, students are introduced to additional tools and techniques, expanding their woodworking capabilities.

Ability to use multiple woodworking tools safely and effectively to complete complex projects

MODULE 2

Design Technology

Ages 9+

In this module, young makers experience advanced woodworking, integrating disciplines such as electrical wiring and the use of hand tools. In the final level of this module, Innovators are challenged with more complex projects and encouraged to design and create their own projects.

This module also contains 5 levels with 10 lessons in each level, each designed with clear learning goals. During these lessons, students develop their creative thinking by exploring a variety of engaging projects and learning how to bring them to life.

This level is all about laying the groundwork for a safe and creative woodworking journey. Here, students grasp the importance of workshop safety and learn the basics of handling machines like the jigsaw and lathe.

Learning Outcome:

Students are equipped with fundamental safety skills and the ability to make basic cuts, setting the stage for more intricate woodworking adventures.

Students advance their skills by learning to follow plans and blueprints, creating more complex structures and developing spatial awareness.

Learning Outcome:

Ability to interpret design plans and construct basic projects with minimal guidance.

At this level, students begin to create their own designs, learning principles of form and function while developing problem-solving skills.

Learning Outcome:

Students can design and build their own projects, demonstrating understanding of design principles.

Students learn to brainstorm and develop multiple solutions to design challenges, incorporating technology elements into their projects.

Learning Outcome:

Ability to generate innovative ideas and implement them using a combination of woodworking and technology.

The most advanced level challenges students to create original projects that solve real-world problems, integrating multiple disciplines.

Learning Outcome:

Students can independently conceptualize, design, and create complex projects that demonstrate mastery of both woodworking and technology integration.
