Everything parents in Dubai and Abu Dhabi want to know about StuDIYo Lab woodworking, carpentry and design technology workshops for kids β booking, pricing, ages, safety, and more.
StuDIYo Lab is a hands-on woodworking, carpentry and design technology workshop for kids in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Children aged 5 and up build real take-home projects in climate-controlled studios with expert instructors. We also run birthday parties, holiday camps, school programs, and adult sessions on request.
We have two studios in the UAE. The Dubai studio is on the first floor of Times Square Center on Sheikh Zayed Road. The Abu Dhabi studio is on the third floor of Abu Dhabi Mall in Al Zahiyah. Both are open 9am to 8pm, 7 days a week.
Three things. First, every session ends with a real take-home project β not a kit, not a worksheet, but a finished piece your child built. Second, our instructors are specifically trained in child workshop teaching. Third, we run a structured progression from beginner to advanced so kids can grow with us across years instead of jumping between unrelated activities.
StuDIYo Lab has been running kids hands-on workshops in the UAE for several years, with thousands of students through our doors. Our teaching team includes qualified instructors with backgrounds in design, engineering, and education, and we hold an industry-leading safety record.
We offer woodworking workshops, carpentry classes, design technology programs, metal casting sessions, electronics workshops, reverse-engineering classes, and soapstone carving β all hands-on and project-based. Each is available as a single Try-Me session or as a multi-week skill-path program. See our workshops page for the full current list.
A Try-Me session is a single 90-minute introductory workshop with no commitment. Your child experiences a full project from raw materials to finished, take-home piece β perfect for first-timers. If they enjoy it, you can roll into our weekly skill-path programs.
Skill-path programs are structured 6 to 12 week courses that build skills progressively. Topics include tool safety, measurement, joinery, finishing, and design thinking. Students complete several real projects across the term and leave with a portfolio of finished work plus skills theyβll use for life.
Yes. Private 1-on-1 sessions are ideal for kids working on a custom project, children with special needs who benefit from individualised attention, or anyone who wants to learn at their own pace. Contact us to book a private workshop slot.
Yes. We run dedicated holiday camps during all major UAE school breaks β winter, spring, summer, and the autumn half-term. Holiday camps are full-day programs that combine multiple workshop types into a single week. They sell out fast, so book early.
Our youngest students are 5 years old. Tools, projects and supervision ratios are scaled to each age group. We have age-appropriate tracks for ages 5β8, 9β12, and 13+, with progressively more challenging projects and tools as kids grow.
For 5 year olds, we recommend a Try-Me woodworking session building a simple project like a name sign, picture frame, or rocket slot-together. These projects use only hand tools and child-safe equipment, and are scoped to fit a 90-minute attention span.
Older kids respond well to projects that respect their growing skills. At StuDIYo Lab, popular workshops for 12 year olds include electronics, metal casting, reverse engineering, F1 car building, and complex woodworking projects like pinball machines and helicopter models.
Yes β teens 13 and up can work on advanced projects including pinball machines, F1 cars, custom furniture, jewelry boxes, and design technology builds with electronics. Many of our teen students use their StuDIYo Lab projects in school portfolios and university applications.
Our core programs are for kids and teens, but we run adult and parent-and-child workshops on request β including Try-Me sessions where you can build a project alongside your child. Contact us to ask about an adult woodworking session at either studio.
Yes. StuDIYo Lab has a dedicated special needs program with 1-on-1 instruction, sensory-aware project planning, and instructors trained in working with neurodiverse children. Many of our most rewarding sessions have been with children on the autism spectrum or with ADHD.
Yes. Every session follows a Safety-First methodology: low instructor-to-student ratios (typically 1 to 6β8), age-appropriate tools, mandatory safety briefings, and protective equipment (aprons, safety glasses) provided on site. Instructors supervise every cut, drill, and sand. We have an industry-leading safety record across thousands of student sessions.
Tool selection is scaled to age. Younger children (5β8) use only hand tools β Japanese-pull saws, hand drills, sanding blocks, mallets. Older kids (9β12) are introduced to power drills, bench sanders, and assisted use of power saws under direct supervision. Teens (13+) use the full set of woodworking tools, always with instructor oversight.
Closed-toe shoes are required. Comfortable clothes that can handle a bit of sawdust or paint are best. Long sleeves are optional. Tie back long hair before the session and avoid loose jewelry. We provide aprons, safety glasses and any other protective equipment on site.
Yes. Parents are welcome to stay and watch from our viewing area, or to step out to the cafes and stores at Times Square Center or Abu Dhabi Mall. Many parents drop off and use the time as their own β both venues have plenty within walking distance of the studio.
You can book a workshop directly via our contact page, or call our Dubai studio (+971 50 388 8534) or Abu Dhabi studio (+971 56 403 8383). For some workshops, online booking is available through individual workshop pages.
A single 90-minute Try-Me session typically starts from 150 AED per child. Multi-week skill-path packages, birthday party group rates, and holiday camp full-week prices are available at lower per-child rates. All prices include materials, tools, equipment, and the take-home project. Contact us for current pricing on a specific workshop.
Yes β we offer sibling discounts on multi-week packages and group rates for birthday parties, school field trips, and private events. Contact us for current discount details.
Our cancellation and refund policy varies by workshop type and notice period. Generally, cancellations made 48 hours or more in advance can be rescheduled or refunded. See our refunds page for the full policy details, or contact us with a specific booking question.
Walk-ins are sometimes possible for Try-Me sessions when there is availability, but we strongly recommend booking ahead β especially on weekends and during holidays when classes fill up days in advance.
Yes β birthday parties are one of our most popular packages. Each party includes a private workshop room, all materials and tools, expert instructor, party space, and a custom project for every guest to build and take home. Parties are available at both studios for groups of 6 to 20 children, ages 5 and up.
Standard party packages accommodate 6 to 20 children. For larger parties, contact us β we can sometimes split groups or run extended sessions. Parents and accompanying adults are welcome to stay in the party space during the workshop.
Yes β birthday party packages include party space where you can serve your own cake and snacks before or after the workshop. We do not currently provide catering on site, but the surrounding mall venues have plenty of options for collection.
Yes. StuDIYo Lab partners with schools across Dubai and Abu Dhabi to deliver in-school maker workshops, design technology curriculum support, field trips to our studios, and after-school enrichment programs. We can align with British, IB, American, and UAE Ministry of Education curricula.
